She made me watch this program that I've been trying to avoid since the Palin fiasco.

As usual, with but two exceptions, the music wasn't related to what was danced.

As usual, the direction did not allow us to see the dancers dancing. They should emulate the excellent job done with the ice skaters at Sochi.

Each time the announcer said "ChaChaCha" ChaCha was danced.

NeNe, ChaCha: Too much posing but good basics.
My score: 18 - Judges' score: 21

James, FoxTrot: Not only was it not a FoxTrot, it wasn't any recognizable dance. Bad knees. Nice dance, though.
My score: 18 - Judges' score: 21

Danica, FoxTrot: Wonderful, for the first week!
My score: 27 - Judges' score: 24

Sean, Contemporary: I have no idea what that is, its distinctive feature[s], its timing, its basics, or anything else. I'm not too ignorant to have an opinion but I am to give a score.
My score: - - Judges' score: 20

Billy, ChaCha: Almost embarrassing.
My score: 12 - Judges' score: 15

Meryl, ChaCha: Wait 'til she learns to spin on her feet! She and Charlie, her skating partner, will be the finalists.
My score: 27 - Judges' score: 24

Candace, Contemporary.
My score: - - Judges' score: 25

Cody, ChaCha: Not much ChaCha but an OK dance.
My score: 21 - Judges' score: 22

Drew, FoxTrot: Not a bad dance to inappropriate ChaCha music.
My score: 18 - Judges' score: 21

Amy, ChaCha: Off-time. The direction prevented us from seeing the dance.
My score: 18 - Judges' score: 24

Diana, FoxTrot: Best FoxTrot music of the evening. Nice dance.
My score: 21 - Judges' score: 18

Charlie, Contemporary: Nice lifts, of course! He and Meryl, his skating partner, will be the finalists.
My score: - - Judges' score: 27

In article <c20c84d6-e05f-4c6c...@googlegroups.com>,
Now that DWTS is back on the air, it's time to review the voting system.
They claim that judges' votes and fan votes are counted equally, but
it's easy to see that's just horse manure.

The fans can vote any way they please, while the judges are bound by a
scoring system. Fans can give candidate A 20 times as many votes as
candidate B; the judges can't. This and similar reasons are what's
responsible for some peculiar results in previous seasons, when really
good (but without a big fan base) dancers are cut while a popular "star"
who can hardly walk without stumbling hangs on for weeks--sometimes
until the finals. Fan votes can--and often do--overwhelm the judges'
votes.

It doesn't take a conspiracy of techies to hack into ABC and manipulate
the results, just a good get-out-the-vote campaign.

So show DWTS what you think of their scoring system. Each week, vote as
many times as you can (use more than one web browser, and dump cookies
if you know what that means) for the worst dancer, and get your friends
to do the same.

And remember: You don't need to actually watch the show in order to
vote!

Last time I watched DWTS was when they had Buzz Aldrin and previous was with Steve Wozniak. However, I do remember they always say "ChaChaCha" (sounds corny). Now I know it's entertainment but geez judges also grill them on technique. At least say it like it should be.

> FoxTrot: Not only was it not a FoxTrot, it wasn't any recognizable dance.

it seems to me foxtrot takes years to get that smoothness especially dancing slow step as a slow (most speed through the "slows" so their foxtrot is really a series of quicks and no distinguishable slows (man, I'm still working on this). But taking someone with no dance experience and giving them a few short weeks or less to dance foxtrot like it is really done, yikes, that is demanding. So when all else fails do a George Hamilton. I remember when he was on DWTS, he had bad knees, bad back, his foot work was sloppy but he looked better than the rest of them with a great attitude and smile. Also Steve Wozniak did the same and even Bruno couldn't phase him.

She didn't make me watch it all so I did no scoring but did make some observations.

Swing is a genre, with many dances (regardless of what we think of them) within it, not a dance. There are Lindy Hop; Jive; Modern Jive; the shags Carolina, Collegiate, Imperial, and Saint Louis; Hustle; the swings East and West Coast, and perhaps others. When "Swing" was danced, it included a bit of this and a bit of that but was not recognizable as any particular Swing dance.

A Rumba's music was totally wrong.

A Salle-Sih looked nothing like Mambo OnOne but how could it have been to such inappropriate music?

Posted October 11, 2010:
Forcing a dance into inappropriate music is a dis-service to the
choreographers, dancers, musicians, and audience.
"Worse, for dances associated with a particular culture such
as Tango Argentino, Rumba, ChaCha, Merengue, Bolero, and Samba, the
wrong music is a display of cultural insensitivity and an insult to
those cultures. It upsets me so much that I have difficulty watching
the dances when that happens.

My consistent complaint about this program since its inception is that
the director, on a program about DANCING, prefers to show us the
dancers' faces, the dancers' torsos', the dancers' feet, the dancers'
judges, and dancers' audience while the dancers are DANCING the dances
that are being judged! How'n'ell're we s'posed to have an opinion on
dances that we aren't allowed to see? Obviously that hasn't stopped me
but I'm not confident that my judgements are worth much.
